This week concluded the first week in the new year and the first week of the 2,018 miles in 2018 challenge. I actually ran less than I had planned this week, which isn’t a great way to kick off the new year.
Here was my schedule:
Monday: 7 miles
Tuesday: 7 miles
Wednesday: 6 miles (planned 7)
Thursday: 3 miles + weight training
Friday: 6 miles (Planned to run 10)
Saturday: 12 miles (Planned to run 13.1)
Sunday: 0 miles / Planned rest day
41 miles is on track for getting to 2,018 miles, as we need to average 38.8 a week, but I was really hoping to bank some extra miles in the beginning of the year while I am enthusiastic! I know that life will get in the way at times. We are planning a trip to Italy in June, a trip to Walt Disney World in February (for the Disney Princess Half Marathon) and in July (with my sister and nephews!). I LOVE taking vacations and traveling, but it does put a kink in my running plans.
I’m thinking of adding a full marathon to my training plan mid-year to keep my motivation up. Sometimes if I don’t have a race that I’m training for, my motivation wanes.
I also ran the 12 miles on Saturday on the treadmill and it was not pretty. It was only 13 degrees outside and I didn’t want to run in the cold. But my hubby had the heat turned up full blast in the house and it felt like I was running in a sauna. I even closed the vent and brought in a huge fan, but it still was incredibly hot.
I’m looking forward to Spring when I can run outside again and have the beautiful not too hot, not too cold weather.
How did you do this first week?
What do you do when it’s cold outside? Do you brave the cold or do you hit the treadmill?
